Our maternal-fetal medicine specialist, Adib Abdelrahman, DO, along with our maternal-fetal medicine fellows (obstetrician-gynecologists who are pursuing advanced training in high-risk pregnancy) provide quality, personalized, ongoing care for high-risk pregnancy patients. 

Our physicians serve as consultants to your obstetrician-gynecologist, working together to co-manage your pregnancy. We work in partnership with your private obstetrician to provide the best care for you and your baby. Our focus is on a healthy pregnancy. 

Some special things to know about Maternal Fetal Medicine

• High-risk appointments take longer than traditional ob/gyn appointments because our patients have other medical conditions that impact their pregnancy. 
• Your appointment may take one to two hours. 
• A high-risk pregnancy requires more frequent visits and closer monitoring. 

St. Joseph Mercy Oakland is a teaching hospital. You may be seen by a maternal-fetal medicine fellow or an experienced resident physician supervised by Dr. Abdelrahman. 

Dr. Abdelrahman does not perform deliveries. Deliveries are performed by your attending obstetrician-gynecologist. Our maternal-fetal medicine fellows occasionally join the obstetrician for delivery.
