Applications for MS 4 auditions will be due on April 17, 2026 and applicants will be notified about audition invitations by the end of April or early May. Students interested in a virtual audition should email Erin Madden Erin.Madden@trinity-health.org and Lindsay Zasada Lindsay.Zasada@trinity-health.org

Our virtual dermatology audition rotation provides a comprehensive way for students to learn about our program while reducing many of the barriers associated with traditional visiting rotations. Through a structured virtual experience, participants gain insight into our clinical rotations, didactic curriculum, and the day-to-day experiences of our residents and faculty. The format also offers multiple opportunities to connect directly with all faculty members, including a one-on-one meeting with the program director, allowing students to ask questions, discuss mentorship and training, and better understand the culture of our program. Our rotation also places a strong emphasis on teaching and foundational dermatology education. Students participate in a variety of educational sessions, including Kodachrome-style clinical image lectures, dermatopathology teaching sessions, interactive Jeopardy-style review sessions covering a wide range of dermatologic topics, and monthly Grand Rounds. This structured curriculum helps prepare students for additional dermatology rotations while also providing a strong foundation in core dermatologic knowledge.

Importantly, the virtual structure eliminates the significant financial burden associated with traveling for an in-person rotation, making the experience more accessible to students from a wide range of backgrounds. Rather than asking students to assume the costs of travel, accommodations, and related expenses, our program absorbs those logistical burdens and instead invests faculty and resident time in curating a dedicated week focused on medical student education. This structure allows us to provide a more standardized and comprehensive introduction to the program than is often possible during a traditional in-person rotation. At the same time, we recognize that many applicants value the opportunity to see a program and connect with its people in person. For this reason, we offer an optional in-person second look to all students who are invited to interview. This approach allows applicants to first explore our program in a flexible and accessible format while still providing the opportunity for an in-person experience later in the process.

We recognize that taking both COMLEX and USMLE examinations can represent a significant financial burden for osteopathic medical students. For this reason, our program does not require applicants to take both exams, and applicants may apply using COMLEX scores alone. However, if a student feels that their COMLEX score does not fully reflect their test-taking ability, they may consider taking USMLE STEP to further demonstrate their academic performance.

For the upcoming application season, students who complete a virtual audition rotation with our program will automatically receive a Silver signal. Applicants who demonstrate a strong interest in our program may choose to assign a Gold signal if they wish to further indicate their preference.
