Your Information

Trinity Health Michigan performs ankle brachial index as a non-invasive test to identify your source of blockage.

What is Ankle Brachial Index?

Ankle brachial index is a quick, non-invasive test that compares blood pressure readings in a patient's legs to access blockage in the blood flow of the extremities that has resulted in peripheral artery disease.

The results can also help to determine a patient's risk for stroke or heart or vascular disease. An ultrasound device and blood pressure cuff are used during the procedure. Patients may undergo the test while resting and immediately following exercise.
